Bears and books One of my favorite traditions as a kid was sitting on the couch with my sisters, carefully scratching the Scratch and Sniff stickers in Patricia Scarry’s The Sweet Smell of Christmas . The distinct bottled smell of the pine tree signals Christmas for my brain long before it’s time to bring a tree inside. It wouldn’t be Christmas for me without Little Bear and picture books. We added Bear Stays Up for Christmas to our Christmas bear book collection in 2017. As a person with idiopathic hypersomnia, I often feel like a hibernating bear. I certainly relate to Bear's experience trying to stay awake for Christmas. Like Bear, I appreciate all my friends and family who help me stay awake and are patient with my hibernating bear qualities.
